SSE offers reassurance over billing errors - 05/04/2012

Business energy provider SSE has reassured its smallest customers they will not be liable for 'back billing' for more than 12 months if they were accidentally undercharged.

The firm has said where there is a genuine mistake, it will take responsibility for this and not impose extra burdens on its users.

It will apply this policy to all firms that employ fewer than ten workers, have a turnover of under €2 million (£1.65 million), or do not exceed certain gas and electricity usage limits.

Director of business supply at SSE Kevin Greenhorn said: "We are acutely aware that in this current economic climate, business customers need the reassurance they can trust their energy supplier to provide them with the energy they need in a fair and transparent way."

Recently, the Forum of Private Business warned small firms need greater protection over their energy bills, as the cost of gas and electricity is a barrier to growth.
