Business energy savings to be more easily available - 30/06/2009
Savings on business gas and electricity prices are intended to become easier through more convenient access to loans for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).
The Carbon Trust is offering £100 million worth of loans that are available both unsecured and interest-free so that SMEs will be able to pursue energy efficiency more effectively without having to worry so much about the investment in the current climate.
Loans as low as £3,000 and as high as £400,000 are available and many businesses have already reduced their bills by 75 per cent.
Tom Delay, chief executive of the Carbon Trust, said: "Small and medium businesses are the backbone of the UK economy and key to the move to the low carbon world. We are extending a helping hand to them by offering more than £100 million in interest-free, unsecured loans at a time when bank funding is hard to come by."
Businesses are expected to use the money to reduce their energy usage in order to both lower their bills and cut their carbon footprints.
