Mobile phone manufacturers are putting more effort into improving their business energy credentials, according to CNET UK.
Flora Graham, mobile phones editor at the technology website, said the increased awareness of business energy efficiency among mobile phone companies is down to corporate reasons, as manufacturers are looking for ways to appeal to customers and differentiate themselves from competitors.
Ms Graham pointed out that there should be more of a commitment from mobile phone manufacturers to producing environmentally-friendly phones and reducing their carbon footprint.
"The chemicals and the amount of energy that goes into mobile phones definitely need to be improved," she said.
"It is up to us as consumers to put as much pressure as we can on the manufacturers to make that happen."
Ms Graham added that the eco mobile phone rating scheme will give consumers more confidence in the sustainability of their phones but urged users to try not to put too much emphasis on a single measure or ranking.
