Business energy users will need a clear idea of how the government plans to boost the UK's renewable energy.
This is the opinion of John Barwise, chair of the Cumbria Green Business Forum, who noted: "If the government is seen to be holding back on its commitments to renewable energy, investors are going to look elsewhere.
"Clearly we need to have a transparent strategy for encouraging renewable energy in the UK if we're going to be able to attract the level of investment necessary to sustain growth in this sector," he pointed out.
Companies will need to know the government's strategy before they invest or seek money to invest in renewables, while investors will not be prepared to commit until they have a stronger concept of the future of renewable energy, Mr Barwise added.
His comments come after a report from Ernst and Young ranked the UK fifth for its appeal to renewable cheap energy investors.
