Scotland lays out green energy targets - 15/03/2011

Households could see a dramatic reduction in their energy bills should they take up policies outlined in a new document, the Scottish government has said.

The authorities north of the border have confirmed they are on track to meet their targets for carbon emission cuts by 2020.

According to a new report from the government, homes in Scotland could collectively save £8.5 billion in their fuel bills over the next four decades as a result of energy efficiency.

In addition, motorists could save millions of pounds more each year as a result of eco-driving.

Roseanna Cunningham, environment and climate change minister for Scotland, said: "Today marks yet another significant landmark in Scotland's programme of action to tackle climate change and make the transition to a low-carbon Scotland."

She added: "A low-carbon society makes sense for consumers, business and public services - it continues to makes sense for Scotland."
