Solar panels 'are good return on investment' - 06/04/2011

There are plenty of benefits for homeowners who install solar panels to generate their own cheap electricity.

Ian Reilly, business development manager at Beyond Building Solar, pointed out that some misconceptions still remain about the green energy source, such as the belief that panels cannot store energy when it is cloudy or overcast.

"Fortunately, solar power doesn't rely purely on beautiful sunny days. It can be a reflected light coming through from cloud cover as well, and it will still operate to a certain extent on those days," he explained.

"[Solar panelling] still represents a very good return on your investment."

Mr Reilly's comments come after the first anniversary of the government's feed-in tariff scheme, which came into effect on April 1st 2010.

It has been used by homeowners and businesses to install green electricity generating equipment and save money on utility bills, although the government recently announced the scheme would be cut for installations over 50kW.
