The Office of Fair Trading (OFT) is set to launch an investigation into the home insulation market to determine if it is offering value to people looking to fit the measures in order to get cheap energy.
It noted the sector in the UK is worth around £700 million a year and is likely to grow further due to the impact of new government policies set to be implemented this autumn.
Director of the OFT's Services, Infrastructure and Public Markets Group Nisha Arora said "it is important that we examine the home insulation market now to ensure that it is working well for consumers", as the Green Deal and Energy Company Obligation are set to increase the take-up of efficiency measures.
The OFT has raised particular concerns about the high level of customer complaints in the market at the moment.
Manufacturers, distributors, trade bodies and consumer groups have all been invited to submit their views on the state of the sector.
Recently, the Southern Daily Echo reported there has been a large drop in the last two years in the number of homes in Hampshire having lagging fitted as part of the Carbon Emissions Reduction Target scheme.
