People looking to perform an energy comparison and switch gas provider to get cheaper bills may also like to consider renovating their home as a way to ensure they spend as little as possible on energy.
It was stated by the Daily Mirror this could be a key way to save money as tariffs have almost doubled in the last five years and show no signs of falling.
Indeed, it was claimed last week by British Gas increases in wholesale gas costs are likely to lead to higher domestic energy bills later this year.
Therefore, the Mirror recommended people take steps such as fitting insulation and upgrading to more modern heating systems.
"Boilers can account for as much as 60 per cent of your annual energy bills, so one that uses less energy will save you a small fortune over its lifetime," the newspaper said.
Turning down thermostats by a single degree could also cut £40 from an average energy bill while having little appreciable effect on a home's comfort, the publication observed.
