Independent energy supplier first:utility has launched its first dual fuel offer which it claims is the cheapest currently available on the market, reports MoneyHighStreet.com.
The energy supplier is now able to provide the offer by adding gas to its existing electricity service. It also provides cheap broadband. The company says that it is setting an example for the UK's major energy suppliers to follow, as it has also introduced smart meters to its customers, enabling them to precisely monitor their energy usage and identify how they can pursue cheap energy.
Mark Daeche, chief executive of first:utility, told the website: "As an independent player outside the Big Six, we are a nimble organisation which is able to respond quickly to the fluctuating market conditions and pass on real benefits to consumers."
The UK's major energy suppliers have received intense criticism for not passing on wholesale market reductions to consumers more quickly.
Smart meters could help homeowners cut their energy use by 15 per cent, enabling better access to cheap energy.
