Carbon Trust loans helping pubs reduce energy supplier costs - 25/08/2009
Pubs planning to switch energy companies could also benefit from interest free efficiency loans being made available by the Carbon Trust.
The Big Business Refit has been designed to help pubs reduce their outgoings by providing loans of up to £400,000 to replace old equipment with more modern and energy-efficient devices to help lower gas and electricity bills, reports the Morning Advertiser.
Each individual pub taking advantage of the scheme has saved around £9,000 during the project's initial six months and the Carbon Trust thinks the wider hospitality sector could save nearly £40 million a year.
Tom Daley, chief executive of the Carbon Trust, told the paper: "With credit all but dried up elsewhere, the Big Business Refit breaks the deadlock by helping hospitality firms buy the equipment that will both slash their costs and often transform their businesses."
The scheme has won the support of the Federation of Small Businesses.
Many firms leave non-essential equipment switched off overnight and at weekends to save on business energy costs.
