Energy minister reaffirms commitment to green energy - 21/01/2010

Energy and climate change minister Ed Miliband has expressed the UK's commitment to using renewable energy in order to fight climate change.

Speaking this week at Abu Dhabi's World Future Energy Summit, which was attended by energy suppliers, business leaders and politicians, Mr Miliband said the UK is continuing to make great strides in its adoption of green technology to provide consumers with cheap energy.

He highlighted the upcoming European Future Energy Forum in London, which will showcase the various initiatives the UK is focusing on to develop renewable and low carbon technologies.

"[The forum] will help bring businesses together to identify investment opportunities as we develop the low carbon energy supply we need," Mr Miliband said.

Dr Sultan Al Jaber, chief executive of Abu Dhabi-based energy supplier Masda, added that the summit will enable companies in the Middle East to "share knowledge, advance solutions and explore partnerships" with energy suppliers in Europe.

The European Energy Forum will take place between October 19th and 21st and will be the fifth in the Future Energy series.
