British Gas 'tempts' consumers to switch gas provider - 04/02/2010

Consumers may be more inclined to switch gas provider to British Gas following the announcement of a seven per cent price cut.

All of the firm's customers will benefit from the price drop, not just those who switch gas providers to British Gas following the announcement.

The company claims that each customer will save an average of around £55 per year as a result of the drive to improve access to cheap energy.

Mark Todd, director of energyhelpline.com, has, however, pointed out that consumers can still save more if they compare energy prices online and switch energy provider to take advantage of any online deals.

Managing director of British Gas Phil Bentley said: "At British Gas, we know household budgets are stretched and that our customers are concerned about the effect the recent cold weather will have on their winter fuel bills. I'm pleased we're able to offer our customers some extra help."

He added that the company is taking other steps to help customers benefit from cheap energy bills. Encouraging consumers to use less energy and improve overall efficiency are two tactics the company is currently using as part of its effort to provide customers with cheap energy bills.
