Cheap energy taxes 'causes energy bills to rise' - 02/07/2010

Taxes from cheap energy efficiency schemes are causing domestic energy bills to rise, an expert has said.

According to Mark Todd, director at energyhelpline.com, there is somewhere between £50 and £100 of green taxes hidden in typical household bills, which subsidise the green production of electricity.

He added that these taxes are set to increase even further in order for the government to meet its targets to achieve 15 per cent renewable electricity reproduction by 2020.

"It appears that the only way these things can really go is upwards unless the government decides to not meet that commitment," Mr Todd commented.

"The whole world is going to be struggling to justify a fairly expensive investment at a time when everyone is tightening their belts."

Mr Todd went on to explain that there are many ways in which people can save money on their energy bills - the easiest of which is compare energy providers and switch to more cost-effective alternatives.
