An energy efficiency scheme in the east of England may have resulted in cheap energy bills for many householders.
The Herts Essex Energy Partnership, run by Climate Energy, recently won a National Energy Action award and was given £2,000 to work with schoolchildren and their parents to cut down energy wastage at home.
Five schools were involved in the project and pupils learnt how insulating houses can lower energy bills.
Mr Virtue, headteacher at Burleigh Primary School, commented: "This project not only encouraged our pupils to think about how they can save energy; but has also shown parents how they can save energy at home and the help they can receive to do so.
"We are hoping that this will raise awareness across the whole school and really kick start our plan to reduce our carbon footprint."
Climate change minister Greg Barker noted that the project is an "excellent example" of how communities can become more energy efficient.
