Scheme launched to cut fuel poverty and save money - 04/08/2011
A project to help householders receive cheap energy bills and cut their carbon emissions is being launched in Halton, Cheshire.
According to the Runcorn and Widnes Weekly News, the Renewables and Energy Efficiency in Community Housing (Reech) initiative will help determine whether homes built in the 1960s and '70s can be fitted with energy efficiency improvements to make them cheaper to run.
Frank Egerton, project manager at Reech, told the newspaper that the community housing scheme will create new jobs and help small, local businesses prepare for a rise in green home initiatives.
Energy supplier British Gas has pledged money to the scheme, along with the European Regional Development Fund and various public and third sector bodies.
Meanwhile, homeowners in Sefton could also benefit from a similar project, with Reech planning to install solar panels and other kinds of renewable energy generating equipment in more than 2,000 homes in the most deprived areas.
