Act fast to save money on heating bills this winter - 02/09/2011

With five of the Big Six energy suppliers having already announced price hikes this summer, householders may be wondering whether to switch energy deals and find a cheaper fixed rate to protect them against future rises.

This month, customers of E.ON and Scottish and Southern Energy will be paying more for the same amount of energy on the 13th and 14th respectively.

Gas and electricity clients of E.ON will shell out an average of 18.1 per cent and 11.4 per cent more each, while those using SSE's gas and electricity services can expect to see their bills rise by 18 per cent and 11 per cent respectively.

If consumers do not act quickly, they will be forced to pay a higher rate to heat their home in the coming winter months.

Four fixed rate tariffs have already expired in the last week, along with a cheap online deal from one of the Big Six, although an energy comparison site will be able to show customers which cheap alternatives are left.
