Individuals looking to compare gas and electricity prices may be able to benefit from a new move by British Gas to offer more support to its customers, in order to help them meet their energy bills.
The firm has announced its Warmer Winter package, which includes a commitment not to implement any further price rises over the colder months, flexible payment plans and a discount for people on low incomes.
It is also offering free insulation to its consumers, which it estimates could save more than £200 on a standard dual-fuel gas and electricity tariff.
Managing director of British Gas Phil Bentley said: "Our 'Warmer Winter' package is a £100 million commitment, helping British Gas customers get the best value for money in keeping their energy bills as low as possible."
Recently, the company disputed figures from Ofgem that suggested energy firms have made record profits this year, claiming its overall margins for 2011 will be lower than in 2010.
