Energy suppliers' scheme allows firms to earn while generating power - 13/01/2011

Business energy users could earn more than £100,000 a year by generating excess power for the National Grid.

An initiative run by energy suppliers npower and Flexitricity could see firms providing reserve energy at times of high demand or system stress through the new SmartSTOR service.

David Cockshott, director of industrial and commercial markets at npower, commented: "We work closely with our industrial and commercial customers to help them manage the twin pressures of energy costs and carbon emissions - so helping them unlock revenue from their existing energy assets is the next logical step."

He noted that the project is "win-win for customers", allowing them to earn extra income and increase energy asset reliability "while reducing carbon emissions and risk in the national electricity system".

Mr Cockshott explained that SmartSTOR will generate up to £15 million gross revenue for its customers and save up to 225,000 tonnes of CO2 a year.

Over the last few years, our customers have saved an average of £2,300 a year. Contact us today on 0800 970 26 26 to find how much you can save.
