Businesses 'may need incentives' to install energy saving measures - 01/02/2011

Business energy customers may be facing higher bills but some are still hesitant to welcome the idea of fitting energy efficiency measures, a government minister has stated.

Greg Barker, minister for climate change, commented: "Heating bills have rocketed up in the last few years - gas bills, the year before last, went through the roof - and yet still people seem slightly resistant."

Rather than punishing those who do not take the lead in installing cheap gas and electricity-reducing devices around the home or workplace, the government will instead use incentives to bring people round.

"One of the incentives that we can use is community cooperation, which is why involving local authorities is going to be so important and making the green deal something that community groups can really buy into," Mr Barker added.

His comments come after environment minister Edwin Poots noted that small advancements in recycling, reusing and reducing waste could save householders hundreds of pounds.
