Business energy customers should not fail to take advantage of the opportunities renewable energy brings.
This is the opinion of interim chair of the pan-Humber Local Enterprise Partnership John Clugston, who told HumberBusiness.com that firms should see "the clear importance of renewables".
His remarks came as the application for a united Humber region went before government ministers.
If granted, enterprise zone status could help boost job creation and highlight the region's opportunities for green growth, he said.
"The Humber could become the European centre for renewable energy. What we don't want is this going abroad. We have got to push for this like mad. It would be tremendous," Mr Clugston added.
His comments came after the University of St Andrews unveiled plans to cut energy costs by installing six wind turbines.
If permission is granted, a 12MW wind farm will be constructed at Kenly Farm to generate green electricity for the university.
