Govt 'must make sustainability simpler' - 29/05/2012

An expert thinks the government has got to make sustainability simpler for business gas and electricity customers.

E.ON chief executive Tony Cocker spoke about the issue at the recent Sustainabilitylive event in Birmingham.

He said the UK's energy system is going through a huge change and the coalition has got to get closer to customers to help them with this.

At the moment, a lot of people don't understand what they can gain from sustainability and how it affects them.

Therefore, it's up to the government to gain people's trust and get energy companies to engage with consumers.

Mr Cocker continued: "We want the government to try to reduce the complexity and try to reduce the uncertainty by being consistent."

The government's draft Energy Bill was launched on May 22nd by secretary of state for energy and climate change Edward Davey.
