Firms unhappy with suppliers' eco credentials - 02/02/2010
A new report suggests that major companies may begin to switch energy providers if they are not happy with their suppliers' environmental credentials.
According to a survey by the Carbon Disclosure Project, more than half (56 per cent) of large companies said they would reject firms that do not meet targets for managing carbon emissions.
The survey found that more than 80 per cent of supply chain companies do not have carbon emission goals beyond 2012.
More than a third (38 per cent) of supply chain respondents said they have carbon reduction targets in place, with most firms having short-term carbon reduction goals of about five years.
The report said that it is clear suppliers are going to have to start performing detailed assessments about their current ability to improve their carbon emissions management and tackle climate change.
Energy suppliers were also urged to set ambitious targets for reducing emissions in order to remain competitive.
