Leaving lights on 'costs £160 million a year' - 04/05/2012

Business energy users looking to get cheap electricity need to take steps to improve their efficiency in order to save money.

This is according to Gregg Corbett, marketing director of Avery, who said simple steps to ensure energy is not being used unnecessarily could make a big difference.

He highlighted figures that reveal UK businesses waste £160 million a year by leaving lights on when there is no-one in the office.

"In a business with poor environmental practices, staff often leave personal computer monitors on, open windows when the heating is on and leave printers on overnight," Mr Corbett said.

When these factors are added together, it results in a large amount of money being wasted, he continued.

Mr Corbett also stated it will be important for small firms to engage with staff and let them know their actions can make a difference in order to cut bills and reduce the company's carbon footprint.
