With fuel bills expected to rise again this winter, it was noted that maintaining heating systems in their optimum state is a wise move if people want to keep their energy charges to a minimum.
In some cases, a new boiler may be required, as devices that are more than 15 years old may perform at just 70 per cent efficiency, which means 30 pence of energy is wasted for every £1 used.
The comments follow similar advice from managing director of energy at British Gas Ian Peters, who recently claimed people should be thinking about how to future proof their home with modern boilers and insulation.
