The Carbon Trust is launching an online application process to help smaller firms gain the organisation's Standard in a bid to cut down the waiting time for businesses hoping to be assessed for their energy use.
Available to companies with an energy spend of up to £50,000, the Carbon Trust hopes that its initiative will persuade more businesses to take action and reduce their carbon emissions.
Carbon Trust Standard Company general manager Harry Morrison commented: "When added together, the potential for savings by SMEs could be up to £1.1 billion, so carbon management is fast becoming a business imperative. To help them act they need tailored expert help."
He pointed out that the new assessment and certification service is a "great way" for smaller enterprises to benchmark their carbon performance and promote their green achievements to stakeholders.
The Carbon Trust provides specialist advice to both the private and public sector to help organisations cut down on their business energy waste.
