Business energy clients might be able to save thousands of pounds a year by implementing energy efficiency measures and switching to a different tariff.
According to the Bromley News Shopper, the local fire station is set to save £80,000 a year and cut its emissions by 20 per cent after being fitted with solar panels to produce its own green electricity, motion sensor lights, which turn off automatically, and energy efficient boilers.
The station is one of ten in London to get this treatment under mayor Boris Johnson's RE:FIT scheme.
Mr Johnson commented: "This scheme not only saves the fire brigade and the taxpayer a huge £80,000 a year in energy bills that can be better spent keeping Londoners safe, but it helps cut our carbon emissions too."
The programme is designed to make public buildings greener and is being extended to councils, hospitals and university.
It was taken up last year by the University of London and Newham University Hospital NHS Trust with the view to cutting their commercial energy bills by 2014.
