Scout group receives grant for clean energy - 18/06/2012
A group of scouts may be able to generate clean cheap electricity for their headquarters due to a grant from energy supplier Scottish Power.
The provider has allocated the Fylde District Scouts organisation £10,000 from its Green Energy Trust for the installation of solar panels on its new building.
This is being constructed with the help of fundraising efforts in the local community after the previous headquarters was badly damaged in an arson attack in June 2010.
Over 120 square metres of the new building will be covered in the solar photovoltaic panels, which will produce 6.5 MW of electricity per year.
Senior environmental and social policy manager at Scottish Power Alison McKean said the firm is "delighted" to be supporting the Fylde District Scouts.
She added that "it is increasingly important for organisations and businesses to use sustainable energy sources" in order to boost their environmental performance.
Last week, a survey by the National Farmers Union and NatWest revealed a third of farmers will use some form of renewable energy to cut their bills this year.
