Special bus to help children compare energy sources - 28/09/2009
A bus developed by authorities in Oxfordshire is to teach children how to pursue cheap energy and provide education in relation to renewable technology.
The Energy Bus has a generator powered by a bicycle, as well as a wind turbine and solar panels, and Northmoor Trust and West Oxfordshire district council have arranged for the bus to visit two local schools in Woodstock and Burford, before the project is officially launched.
The idea is to help the children understand climate change issues and promote energy-saving techniques that they could then implement at home.
District councillor David Harvey said: "The hands-on equipment provides a fun and exciting way for young people to learn about important issues, such as saving energy, reducing waste and raising awareness about climate change."
Major energy supplier Npower and Oxfordshire county council have jointly funded the education project.
The installation of energy-saving light bulbs and cavity wall and loft insulation are measures that can be used to reduce domestic emissions and reduce costs.
