Cheap energy facility planned for Nottingham University - 15/09/2010
Plans have been unveiled to build a new multimillion-pound facility at Nottingham University aimed at developing low carbon technologies and promoting cheap energy efficiency.
The £6.5 million research centre, known as the Energy Technologies Building, will be located at Nottingham University's Jubilee Campus and will include an energy testing facility, a rooftop laboratory, a prototype hall and an exhibition area.
It is hoped that the centre will help develop a range of effective low carbon technologies specifically for Nottingham.
Funding for the centre comes from the university and from the European Regional Development Fund, which is administered in the region by the East Midlands Development Agency.
Construction of the Energy Technologies Building is expected to start in early 2011 and is scheduled to be completed in January 2012. The facility is being designed to be one of the most energy efficient buildings in the country.
Professor Alan Dodson, pro-vice-chancellor at the university, said the building will "reinforce Nottingham's place at the vanguard of global energy research".
