Public to be consulted on UK's energy future - 04/03/2011
Consumers wanting to compare energy could put their opinions forward for a new Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC) survey.
The government's My2050 web application gives householders a chance to have their say over how the UK should tackle the problem of carbon emissions and meet its cheap energy demands by 2050.
Launched yesterday by energy secretary Chris Huhne, the online initiative allows participants to choose various ways to reduce carbon emissions by 80 per cent within the next 40 years.
The minister commented: "There's no silver bullet solution to the UK's energy future. This project is all about getting to grips with the hard choices and trade-offs which need to be made, choices which will affect our homes, communities and the way we travel. We can't afford to leave it till tomorrow - so get involved today."
Meanwhile, research from Consumer Focus revealed that four in five home-buyers do not regard the energy efficiency of their prospective new property to be a priority when purchasing.
