As more cheap gas users switch to greener sources of power, there will be greater opportunities for engineers.
This is the view of Mark Tully, head of Roevin Engineering, who said: "The strengthening drive for greener energy is generating significant demand for UK engineers in the utility and renewable sectors."
Demand for cheap electricity could also lead to more employment opportunities for those in the engineering sector.
"As the recession starts to ease, engineers are well placed to spearhead this recovery. An abundance of domestic and global opportunities, as well as the increasing number of vacancies in the construction industry will be of particular benefit to civil engineers, but will also affect the wider industry in a positive manner," Mr Tully added.
His comments come after research from Alibaba.co.uk revealed more business energy users are searching for green products so that they can make their workplaces more energy efficient.
