Elderly people who are struggling to meet their bills have been urged to switch energy provider in order to find cheap electricity and gas.
Founder of CashQuestions.com Annie Shaw said many individuals aged over 60 may be finding it more difficult to get by as they are affected by a higher rate of inflation than other groups.
Indeed, a recent survey by Age UK found a third of this group can only afford to buy the basics.
This is because they typically spend a higher percentage of their income on necessities such as fuel and food, Ms Shaw noted.
Therefore, she stated one of the first things these individuals need to do is review their outgoings and assess where savings can be made.
Ms Shaw said: "They need to be sure they are getting the best deal on the fuel bills they are paying."
She urged people to consider performing an energy comparison and switching to a new provider, either on the internet or over the phone.
