'Crowd funding' drive to help boost community energy projects - 16/04/2012

Consumers who are looking to make use of renewable energy systems to get cheap electricity are being offered the chance to access a new fund.

Communities across Britain have been asked to raise £5,000 through the peoplefund.it website.

EnergyShare is making £25,000 available to support eco-friendly schemes and enable more households to enjoy clean and cheap electricity.

Keo Films, the organisation behind peoplefund.it and EnergyShare, said it is keen to see communities "really get behind some great projects".

Nick Underhill, spokesman for the group, commented: "This is a fantastic opportunity for community energy projects to increase their funding support by unlocking the power of the local community."

EnergyShare believes households can take many simple steps to improve their green credentials and energy consumption.

Indeed, it has argued that small lifestyle changes such as turning off electrical devices when they are not in use can potentially yield savings of hundreds of pounds.

The website added that this can in turn help to cut the country's carbon emissions.
