Business energy users might be able to cut their gas and electricity bills by sorting out their heating systems.
Paul Edwards, chair of the British Council for Office's Environmental Sustainability Group, commented: "Air conditioning is a major consumer of energy. If you can look at the temperatures you're controlling, ask yourself if you really need to control the room to 20 or 22 degrees. Can you ramp it up to 24 degrees?"
He pointed out that most people are able to work comfortably in 24 degrees and that most offices operate at between 20 and 22 degrees.
"I know that doesn't sound a lot, but a two degree difference can greatly reduce your energy consumption."
Mr Edwards' comments follow research from Lloyds TSB showing 30 per cent of small businesses have grown as a direct result of going green.
More than nine in ten (91 per cent) SMEs have taken steps to become more sustainable, and this has helped a third retain current contracts and clients.
