Firms 'not taking advantage' of power management tools - 05/01/2012

Business energy clients could find they can get cheap electricity bills if they adopt power management solutions for their IT equipment.

This is according to research from Ovum, which claims enterprises that implement these measures could see the power consumption of their computers reduced by up to 40 per cent.

However, it noted few companies are currently taking advantage of this technology, as many IT managers incorrectly believe such tools will disrupt maintenance procedures and other key processes.

Senior analyst at Ovum Rhonda Ascierto said: "With the cost of electricity rising and increasing pressure on organisations to implement sustainability initiatives, PC Power Management solutions can be an effective way to reduce energy consumption."

The report estimated firms could save up to $36 (£23) per PC every year and see a return on their investment within six months.

Recently, energy consultant Dr Paula Owen said businesses need to make efficiency schemes a top priory to cut electricity bills and boost their green credentials.
