Breaking News from energyhelpline.com: the gas & electricity switching service that compares all energy suppliers: New green energy technology unveiled - 27/04/2009

Experts have come up with a new device that could provide a new generation of green energy through wave power, offering consumers looking to switch energy suppliers a greater opportunity to choose an environmentally-friendly supplier.

Wave energy company Aquamarine has announced its Oyster device has begun pumping green energy to the National Grid for the first time.

Describing the event as the "birth of an industry", Aquamaring chief executive Martin McAdam said: "Oyster is revolutionary in its field and what we are seeing is total proof that it can deliver commercially viable electricity."

He added: "I am exceptionally happy that this achievement will allow us to take the next step in its deployment, a ground-breaking development in the UK. Aquamarine is forging ahead in order to deliver our mission to make marine renewable energy mainstream."

Green energy is increasingly being focused on by the government as part of its efforts to boost the UK economy and take the country out of recession.

Ministers have already unveiled proposals for the creation of a new generation of nuclear power facilities in an effort to give people thinking of switching energy supplier the opportunity to choose more environmentally-friendly energy.
