Fuel poverty study could help people looking to switch energy - 21/08/2009
A study into the potential role of clean electricity in tackling high prices from energy suppliers and reducing fuel poverty could encourage people looking for cheap energy rates.
Eaga Charitable Trust (CT) is channelling more than £3 million into the research that will study two separate groups of domestic homes that have had a range of renewable energy microgeneration equipment fitted, reports the Journal.
The homes and effectiveness of each clean energy method will be studied in detail over the next two years to see how the technology could impact on fuel poverty throughout the UK.
Dr Naomi Brown, trust manager for eaga CT, told the paper: "This research will provide a clearer picture of which forms of renewables represent the best value for money for alleviating fuel poverty and we are very pleased to provide funding."
Dr Brown added that over four million homes in the UK are currently affected by fuel poverty.
All Britain's major energy companies increased their prices last year and have been criticised for only introducing slight reductions in 2009.
