Choosing to compare energy companies and switching to better deals could save consumers money, but half of homeowners have not considered the option.
Research from Ebico, the only not-for-profit energy supplier in the UK, reveals nearly 90 per cent of customers who switched companies in the past year saved money in the process, while half of consumers are planning to make a similar move within the next 12 months, reports Easier.com.
However, the figures also showed consumers would need to be accessing savings of more than £25 a month to consider switching a worthwhile exercise.
Phil Levermore, managing director and founder of Ebico, told the website: "Our research shows that only around a third of people in the UK have actually shopped around for a good deal with their energy bills."
He added that an additional third think all energy companies are the same and so have not considered looking for a better deal.
Industry regulator Ofgem recently warned energy prices could rise by 60 per cent over the next few years.
