British Gas has announced that it persuades almost 1,700 customers to switch energy providers and sign up to one of its tariffs every day.
The domestic and business gas and electricity supplier said it is adding new customers at the fastest rate since 2001 under the new chief Phil Bentley.
British Gas attracted more than 200,000 customers back in the first four months of the year, with the rate quadrupling after the firm cut in prices by seven per cent in February.
The energy supplier's total number of customers stands at almost 16 million, which is nearly three million fewer energy customers than ten years ago.
British Gas said it made a record £595 million last year, a figure that was bolstered by the cold snap at the end of the year, which saw gas usage increase by seven per cent and electricity usage surge by two per cent.
Centrica, British Gas' parent company, saw its share increase by more than six percentage points yesterday (Monday May 10th).
