Installing a new boiler is one of the ways homeowners can improve their cheap energy efficiency, an expert has said.
According to Michael Holmes, a spokesperson for the National Home Improvement Show, there are a number of affordable DIY eco-friendly solutions householders can employ to improve their efficiency, such fixing in a new condensing boiler at a price of £400.
"Alternatively, buy a jacket for your boiler," he advised. "It will save ten per cent on your energy bill and reduce the temperature on your boiler by one degree."
Householders were also urged to consider using under-door draught stoppers and reducing their water consumption.
Around 30 per cent of water consumption comes from the toilet, so homeowners were advised to flush less frequently or install a displacement device which will reduce the amount of water used per flush, saving as much as 40 per cent of water per year.
Those keen to save money could also compare energy providers and switch to more cost-effective deals.
