Wind turbine firm to invest in more equipment - 16/02/2011

Cheap electricity customers might be interested to hear that funds have been given to a firm specialising in manufacturing small wind turbines.

According to Renewable Energy Focus, turbine maker quietrevolution has received £5 million from Hazel Capital to build at least 150 qr5 wind turbines, which are designed to be used to generate green electricity on-site.

Jose Carlos Damas, the company's sales director, told the publication: "This project financing enables us to demonstrate our vision of providing distributed energy to communities nationally by locating our wind turbines at regular intervals in the windy parts of the country - along road and rail corridors, and coastal sea defences and promenades.

"Our vertical axis wind turbines enable us to pursue locations that are not suitable for conventional wind turbines such as sites characterised by high levels of turbulence," he added.

His remarks follow energy minister Charles Hendry's insistence that wind power should remain a part of the UK's energy portfolio as it is relatively cheap to set up and maintain.
