Housing development 'will set new green standards' - 18/02/2011
A house building company has teamed up with a cheap energy products installer to provide homeowners with solar panels.
NEBusiness.co.uk reported that Miller Homes and Dodd Group have launched a 100 per cent solar panel housing development in Newcastle and the homes are 44 per cent more energy efficient than standard new properties.
Features such as photovoltaic panels, improved cavity wall and floor installation and low energy lighting will help the residents of these properties go green.
Tony Johnson, the home-builder's north-east commercial director, told NEBusiness that the development will set new standards for cost-effective, sustainable homes.
"We are excited that the north-east is to be home to the first 100 per cent solar housing development built by Miller Homes.
"Code for sustainable homes is the national standard for the sustainable design and construction of new homes," he noted.
"The code aims to reduce our carbon emissions and create homes that are more sustainable."
The news comes after the Green Housing Store advocated the Passivhaus approach to building new green homes.
