Consumers 'need more information' about switching to green suppliers - 01/09/2011

People who want to compare energy and switch gas tariffs could opt for a green energy provider, RenewableUK has suggested.

Rob Norris, press officer at the organisation, noted that more individuals are starting to think about where their energy has come from.

"Some people are switching specifically to green energy companies. Sometimes you even pay an extra premium so that your electricity comes from a green source, which some people are willing to do," he explained.

However, there appears to be a lack of information about green electricity suppliers, so consumers may have to do some of their own research before switching.

"It is worth going into, because as a consumer you can save a great deal of money if you change providers. People are very much looking at where that electricity is coming from and are wanting to invest in generators of clean, green electricity," Mr Norris added.

His comments came after environmental consultancy Gemserv research found 61 per cent of householders would consider installing their own green energy generating equipment at home.
