The most advanced smart meter in the UK has been launched by British Gas, which is likely to be of use to those who want cheap energy for their homes.
It includes a touch screen display, which enables homeowners to quickly and easily monitor their consumption.
This will also help them to reduce their bills, as not only will it allow them to get a better idea of what they are spending, it will mean estimated charges are no longer required.
Managing director of British Gas Smart Homes Dean Keeling pointed out the government supports the roll out of smart meters to every home in the UK.
"This means that households will find it easier to cut their energy use and save money," he added.
Software upgrades can be carried out remotely on the smart meters, which means the process is hassle-free and they never have to be removed.
Energy and climate change minister Charles Hendry said the technology means consumers will be "in control of their energy consumption data".
