Energy bills set to soar as tariffs expire in March

Households face up to 60% price increases as fixed tariffs expire in March

Research from energyhelpline out today shows that twenty-five energy tariffs across ten suppliers, set to end on March 31st, will raise customers’ bills by an average of 28% (£215 a year). The biggest increase will see customers impacted by a 60% price rise if they choose to do nothing.

Mark Todd, co-founder of energy price comparison service, energyhelpline commented:

“Twenty-five energy tariffs are set to end on March 31st handing price rises of up to 60% to a million energy customers. The biggest price rises are enormous – customers on one npower tariff will see an increase of 60% (£445 a year) hiking their bills from £742 to £1,187 a year.”

“Around 1 million consumers across ten energy suppliers will be impacted. Impacted customers will see an average price rise of £215.”

“Using a price comparison site enables consumers to avoid these horrific price rises. Just take a few minutes to switch again and stay on a cheap tariff.”

“All impacted customers are now in the switching period at the end of their fixed price energy deal when they can switch and can’t be charged any cancellation penalties – so now is the ideal time for them to switch. Deals as cheap as £834 a year are possible, saving approximately £300 in unnecessary charges.
