Avoid standard tariff price hikes and don't overpay this winter

Is your tariff expiring this October? Check here

A number of tariffs are due to expire this October, meaning a number of households will need to switch to avoid overpaying on their energy bills.

Typically, once a tariff ends suppliers will move you on to their standard tariff. Standard tariffs are often a supplier’s most expensive tariff costing hundreds of pounds more than the tariff you were previously on. Standard tariffs are also variable rate plans meaning prices are not fixed for the year, and households are susceptible to price rises.

Will I pay cancellation fees for leaving early?

If your tariff is due to expire on 31st October, the good news is your supplier can no longer charge you penalty fees for leaving so you’re now eligible to compare and switch. Industry regulator, Ofgem has ruled that consumers are free to switch away from fixed tariffs within 49 days of your tariff expiry date.

How much can I save through switching?

Currently the typical standard bill costs £1,066* per year, while the cheapest fixed tariff on the market costs just £744, so by comparing and switching today a typical household with medium usage could save as much as £322.
