Thousands without power as Barney bashes the UK

Large numbers of households across the country are without power this morning, as Storm Barney bashed the country overnight. The affected areas include Wales, the Midlands, as well as Southern and Eastern England.

Barney is the second UK storm considered strong enough to be named, and brought winds as high as 85mph on Tuesday before calming during the night. The high winds caused a number of power cuts across the country, with reports that 3,000 homes in Derbyshire, Worcestershire, and Shropshire were without power on Wednesday morning and a further 7,500 homes were without power in Wales.
