With the Covid restrictions set to cost the UK £444m on Christmas and New Year Energy bills, we’ve decided to give switchers the chance to claim £50 between now and 31st December.
Each household in the UK is expected to face an extra £26 when their December bills come through due to more homes being used to celebrate Christmas this year.
Customers who switch before 31st December 2020 via www.energyhelpline.com/merrygivemas will be able to claim up to £50 us, providing the equivalent of free energy for more than 13 days across the festive season and into the new year!
Our own research has revealed that the new restrictions - which has replaced the five-day rule over the Christmas period - will leave the nation with a £273m energy bill. And with the UK set to go back into a stricter tiered system post-festivities, the nation can expect to enter 2021 with a combined energy bill of up to £205m if all regions are asked to see in the New Year with no household mixing.
The research breaks down how much Brits would be spending depending on the various restriction levels:
No mixing allowed | 2 households mixing | 3 households mixing | 4 households mixing | 5 households mixing | |
No of UK Households | 27,600,000 | 13,800,000 | 9,200,000 | 6,900,000 | 5,520,000 |
Cost of festive energy for UK (up to) | £512,150,137 | £256,075,068 | £170,716,712 | £128,037,534 | £102,430,027 |
Cost of NYE energy (2 days) based on no mixing | £204,860,055 | £204,860,055 | £204,860,055 | £204,860,055 | £204,860,055 |
TOTAL COST | £717,010,192 | £460,935,123 | £375,576,767 | £332,897,589 | £307,290,082 |

Tom Lyon, Director of Energy at energyhelpline.com, says:
“Switching energy tariffs can save consumers up to £289 a year, but given energy use will be higher this festive season than usual, we wanted to do something to reduce the impact on consumers’ bills.”
“After the year we’ve all had, we wanted to offer a small gesture to help households worry less this festive season.”
