Looking at an energy deal for your home or a British Gas business energy tariff? This guide will help you decide if they’re right for you.
British Gas is the biggest energy supplier in the UK and currently serves around 12 million homes all across the country. This supplier first opened its doors over 200 years ago but decided to rebrand under the name British Gas in 1973.
Serving millions of businesses and homes all over the country, most people will have heard of British Gas.
Diving into the history of British Gas, it was a state-owned company until 1986 before it was purchased in 1997 by its now parent company Centrica.
British Gas has been supplying businesses with their energy for many years. However, in 2018 British Gas Lite was created to deal with the rising demand of supplying small businesses with their energy at a competitive price.
British Gas Lite is under the same ‘umbrella’ as British Gas but operates as a separate company serving small businesses with online-only smart meter energy management. Larger consumption businesses using over 150,000 kWh per year would still use British Gas for their supply.
