How green is E.ON?

E.ON has invested more than £3.3 billion in renewable energy over the last decade in order to help tackle climate change. All of its tariffs come with 100% renewable electricity as standard, some of which is generated by E.ON’s own UK-based biomass plants. They’ve also partnered with a number of other companies to help develop both onshore and offshore wind farms in or near the Scottish Highlands, the Yorkshire Moors and the Sussex coast.

Customers also have the ability to purchase energy saving devices like solar panels and air source heat pumps through E.ON. Not only will these help the environment by reducing your reliance on harmful fossil fuels but may also reduce the costs of your energy bills too!

What is E.ON’s customer service like?

On popular consumer review website Trustpilot E.ON currently has a fairly average rating of 3.7 out of 5. Over 21,00 reviews have been left for E.ON and around 50% of them are labelled excellent. Their website is very simple and straightforward to use with plenty of helpful FAQs and instructional videos to assist you in solving your query.

E.ON sits in fifth place on our table of UK energy suppliers with a fantastic score of four out of five stars. This rating was generated using a variety of data, including some taken from complaints made by the general public to Citizens Advice, and we created this table to help you make the right choice when it comes to switching your energy supplier.

Every financial quarter, E.ON publishes a complaints report so customers are able to see how effective they are at dealing with the issues raised. In the third quarter of 2020, they were able to resolve 58% of complaints within a day; this rose to 91% within eight weeks.

What is E.ON's contact number?

You can contact E.ON's customer service team on 0345 052 0000.

Can I take any other services from E.ON?

Alongside smart meters, E.ON customers can take advantage of smart thermostats, smart lightning and smart power. You’ll have the convenience of being able to operate them remotely and might even be able to save on your energy bills. The former for example is able to turn the heating off if it senses nobody is home so you’re not wasting energy keeping an empty house warm.

If you’re looking to protect your home E.ON also offers HomeServe boiler cover. No matter which tier you take, you’ll receive a health check and a service upon purchase, access to a 24/7 helpline and a 12 month guarantee on most repairs. There’s electrical cover too which includes a breakdown of the fuse box, failed or broken switches and failure of electrical wiring due to a DIY accident.

Can I take a smart meter with E.ON?

E.ON has already installed over 2 million smart meters nationwide and will fit one for free in the home of any customer who wants one. Smart meters are safe, secure and can help you reduce the cost of your energy bills. They eliminate the need for estimated bills because they send your meter readings to E.ON automatically and will help you see where your usage is highest with the digital in-home display.

SMETS 2 meters, the type which keeps its smart functionality if you switch suppliers, will be installed in homes wherever possible but otherwise you’ll get SMETS 1. These will still work completely fine as a smart meter as long as you stay with E.ON.

Does E.ON offer the Warm Home Discount?

Certain vulnerable customers will be eligible to receive the Warm Home Discount from E.ON. This is a one off payment of £140 that you’ll receive between October and March to help with the cost of your energy bills.

This payment will be made directly to your electricity account between September 2020 and the end of March 2021. If you receive your energy through a prepayment meter, you’ll receive a £140 top up voucher within the same time frame.

 Should I switch to E.ON?

E.ON is a great choice for anybody that’s looking to reduce their carbon footprint. They continue to invest a significant amount in renewable energy, offer free smart meter installation and all of its great-value tariffs come with 100% renewable electricity as standard. You can also purchase solar panels, air source heat pumps and the like to make further environmentally-friendly improvements to your home.
